Red Rock Racing has been an active road and mountain bike team in Northern Arizona for the past 22 years. The team was started in 1985 by John Cadigan, the owner of the former Loose Spoke bicycle shop in Sedona, Arizona. In 1987 Loose Spoke moved to Flagstaff and the team has been rooted here since. The earliest members of our team placed no requirements on its riders and funded it as well as it could with as little structure as possible.
In 2003 when Loose Spoke closed, Nate Spangler took over running the team and the Coffee Pedaler (formerly Flagstaff Adventure Sports) began sponsoring us. Having been turned away from other teams in town, Nate grew Red Rock by including everyone and excluding no one. He formed a core group of racers that traveled together created the core ethos that the team has today. He ran the team singlehandedly for two years before moving to Idaho in 2005.
In 2005 a Board of Directors was established for team administration. Nate appointed the original Board before his departure, feeling the team would be better served that way. From that we have evolved into a more stable and organized operation. In the past Red Rock Racing had less than 10 members but from 2004 to 2006 we grew to over 60 members. Now in 2007 we have stablized around 40 members but our core ethos remain the same. There are good things to come in 2008.
